Siviwe Mpengesi, Chairman of South African football club, Chippa United, has voiced his support for the club’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as the CAF African Cup of Nations semi-finals match between Nigeria and South Africa draws near.
In an official statement shared by the club’s social media account, Mpengesi applauded Nwabali for his stellar performances, which have garnered international recognition for both the player and the club.
Chippa United FC and I stand firmly behind our player, Stanley Nwabali, and support the Nigerian Super Eagles in their upcoming match against South Africa’s Bafa Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best,” Mpengesi stated.
The Nigerian national team has been in exceptional form throughout the AFCON tournament, securing four victories out of five matches played so far. Notably, they achieved a hard-fought 1-0 win against Ivory Coast, a dominant 2-0 victory over Cameroon, and a narrow 1-0 triumph against Angola in the quarterfinals.
Nwabali, who has been guarding the goal for Nigeria, has exhibited remarkable skills, conceding only a single goal in the tournament thus far.
Mpengesi also highlighted the positive impact that Nwabali’s rising profile and the international attention it brings to Chippa United FC have had on the club’s reputation.
“With Stanley’s exceptional performances and the global recognition he has gained, Chippa United FC has benefited immensely. Therefore, both the club and I stand firmly behind Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles in their match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana,” Mpengesi added.
