Jazz Chisholm Jr. Yankees Injury Updates

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Aaron Boone shared several injury updates for the New York Yankees prior to their series finale in Anaheim on Monday. The news is largely positive, especially regarding Jazz Chisholm Jr., who is nearing a return and is ready to take live batting practice. Chisholm could begin a rehab assignment as early as this weekend.

Giancarlo Stanton is also making strides, as he participates in simulated games in Tampa. Stanton may start his rehabilitation assignment soon, although it remains unclear if the Yankees will allow designated hitters to play in rehab games. Additionally, Fernando Cruz is recovering well from a shoulder issue and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today. Luis Gil is progressing, with plans to throw off a mound on Friday, while Jake Cousins recently completed a 30-pitch bullpen session.

In a separate announcement, The Athletic has unveiled its All-Century team for the Yankees, showcasing the best players from the last 25 years. The roster includes stars from the 2009 championship team, such as Mark Teixeira, Robinson Canó, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez. The outfield features Brett Gardner, Bernie Williams, and Aaron Judge. Notably, Dellin Betances was recognized for his peak performance, while Mariano Rivera was named the closer.

Pitching continues to evolve, with velocity often emphasized in modern baseball. However, Ryan Yarbrough stands out as a veteran pitcher who succeeded without relying on speed. He delivered an impressive performance against the Angels, allowing only one run and two hits over six innings, lowering his ERA to 3.06. “I’ve never been a guy who’s thrown incredibly hard,” Yarbrough stated. “But it was one of those things where you just kind of show them you can really pitch.” His unique delivery and control have proven effective in navigating today’s game.

Gerrit Cole, currently on the injured list recovering from Tommy John surgery, spent the week with his family while the Yankees play in California. He discussed his perspective during rehab, expressing gratitude for the time spent with family. “I’ve had some enjoyable times with the kids, so I feel really blessed about that,” Cole said. He visits Yankee Stadium each morning to complete his rehabilitation before returning home to pick up his sons from preschool. “Life’s good,” he concluded, illustrating how he finds positives amid his rehab journey.
