Chloe Chambers Takes Pole Position Amid Rain in Miami Qualifying

Miami, Florida – Chloe Chambers secured pole position for Race 2 of the F1 Academy on Saturday, setting a time of 2:00.458 in a rain-affected qualifying session at the Miami International Autodrome. Chambers, driving for Red Bull Ford, capitalized on her early run before rain began to fall, preventing others from improving their times.
Alisha Palmowski, Chambers’ Campos Racing teammate, qualified in second, just 0.018 seconds behind. Doriane Pin from Mercedes and Ella Lloyd of McLaren followed closely, with only 0.076 seconds separating the top four drivers. The sudden downpour meant that none of the competitors could better their times once the rain hit.
This marks Chambers’ second consecutive pole position, further solidifying Campos Racing’s dominance in the Teams’ Standings. Williams’ Lia Block bounced back from previous challenges to qualify fifth, while her ART Grand Prix teammate Aurelia Nobels followed in sixth. Racing Bulls rookie Rafaela Ferreira qualified seventh, and Kick Sauber’s Emma Felbermayr took eighth, which will place her on reverse grid pole for Race 1.
Championship leader Maya Weug struggled, finishing in tenth place. Weug’s performance was concerning, as she had been fast in practice but couldn’t replicate that in qualifying. Chambers and Palmowski were the first to set competitive times as rain started to fall, pushing the entire field to pit for wet tires soon after.
As the session progressed, weather conditions worsened, making it impossible for drivers to improve their lap times. The session became a series of reconnaissance laps in wet conditions, confirming Chambers’ pole position. The first F1 Academy race is scheduled to start at 2:55 PM local time.
