Chrono Odyssey Reveals Cosmic Horror-Infused MMORPG Features in Developer Diary

Seoul, South Korea – The team behind the much-anticipated MMORPG Chrono Odyssey has released a 20-minute developer diary this week, highlighting key elements of the game ahead of its Closed Beta Test in June via Steam.
Executive Producer Sangtae shared insights into the unique setting of Chrono Odyssey, which departs from traditional fantasy themes. The game draws inspiration from cosmic horror, with influences ranging from the film Prometheus to the threats posed by the Zerg in Starcraft. Set in the world of Setera, players must confront formidable enemies that challenge their understanding of reality.
The environment in Setera merges realistic landscapes with surreal entities, aiming to create a gripping atmosphere. Sangtae cited previous games that explore time management to avert disasters, a mechanic that finds its way into Chrono Odyssey through the innovative Chronotector system, a first for MMORPGs.
Gameplay in Chrono Odyssey prioritizes player freedom. Unlike typical MMORPGs that enforce rigid questlines, players can explore and engage with the world of Setera using the Chronotector to manipulate time. This system allows players to unearth secrets of the past and hints of the future, fostering a sense of discovery.
Players can advance through exploration and crafting without being confined to combat, a shift from the established “Trinity” roles (tank, DPS, healer). The combat system encourages active participation, with mechanisms for parrying and dodging designed to support solo play for all roles.
In a nod to popular titles like Elder Scrolls Online, players can switch between two weapons in real time, with each weapon featuring distinct skill cooldowns. The design focuses on smaller scale encounters, emphasizing versatility in gameplay.
The upcoming Closed Beta Test will offer a mix of single-player and party content, such as Chrono Gates and Expedition Dungeons. Chrono Gates involve strategic one-on-one PvE encounters against Void Apostles, while Trials feature time-traveling puzzles and traps. Expedition Dungeons are designed for groups of three, and Region Bosses require teamwork from multiple parties to overcome.
Sangtae noted that the Closed Beta will not present a finalized version of the game but serve as a platform for player feedback and ongoing refinement. Future updates will introduce new regions, classes, and additional content centered around the theme of spacetime manipulation.
