Cincinnati and Columbus Clash in Historic Rivalry Match

COLUMBUS, Ohio — FC Cincinnati will face off against Columbus Crew on Saturday for a highly anticipated match in the 2025 MLS season. Both teams have been strong contenders this year, sitting in the top three of the Eastern Conference as they enter Rivalry Week.
FC Cincinnati arrives at Lower.com Field after a narrow 1–0 victory over Toronto FC, while the Crew hopes to recover from a 1–1 draw with CF Montreal. Cincinnati leads the conference with a strong record of 9 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, whereas Columbus trails closely behind with 7 wins, 1 loss, and 5 draws.
This matchup, often referred to as the Hell is Real Derby, showcases some of the league’s best offensive talents, including Diego Rossi and Daniel Gazdag for Columbus, along with Cincinnati’s Evander and Kévin Denkey, who each have seven goals this season. Additionally, veteran Kei Kamara will make his debut for Cincinnati, marking his 12th club in MLS.
“It’s going to be an intense game,” Crew striker Jacen Russell-Rowe said. “Cincy loves to be on the front foot and it’s a big rivalry.”
Despite a challenging history in this rivalry, where Cincinnati lost four consecutive matches between 2020 and 2023, they managed to win 2–1 in their last meeting. FC Cincinnati’s manager, Pat Noonan, emphasized the mutual respect shared between the teams. “I think it’s two good teams that have a mutual respect for each other,” Noonan commented.
On the other side, Columbus Crew has been adjusting to a revamped roster this season but has maintained its competitive edge under manager Wilfried Nancy. The Crew’s midfield has been anchored by Darlington Nagbe and Dylan Chambost, proving crucial in defensive efforts, allowing just 13 goals against.
Kickoff for the match is set for 7:15 p.m. on May 17, and fans can catch the action live on Alt 105.7 FM and the Apple TV platform under the required MLS Season Pass.
