In the bustling atmosphere of Stade de France, 19-year-old Claudia Hollingsworth stepped onto the purple track, ready for her big moment at the Paris Olympics. It was a dream she had worked hard for, but standing there, she reminded herself to just enjoy the experience.

However, deep down, she knew she wanted more than just a thrilling experience. After a stunning performance, Claudia shared her thoughts, saying, “I don’t know how to feel. That was insane.” Despite the nerves, she felt surprisingly calm at the start line.

Her coach, Craig Mottram, cheered her on with encouraging words right before the race. “Come on, go get it,” he shouted. Those words stuck with her as she reminded herself to be assertive and not get pushed around in the race.

Claudia’s attitude seems to have shifted after her initial race. “I’ll just come with the same attitude, maybe be a bit more hungry,” she said, expressing her newfound confidence heading into the semifinals.

Meanwhile, fellow Australian runners Abbey Caldwell and Catriona Bisset had mixed results in their heat, with Caldwell finishing fifth and Bisset falling short in seventh place.

On the same day, Bree Masters made history by being the first Australian woman since Melinda Gainsford Taylor in 2000 to reach the 100m semi-finals, after an impressive run at 11.26 seconds.

It was a busy day on the tracks, with Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson dominating the women’s high jump, while Rose Davies made a solid bid for a place in the 5000m final.

Despite challenges, like Ollie Hoare and Stewart McSweyn not advancing from their heats, a new repechage system gives them another shot at qualifying.

In an uplifting moment, Bree Masters found a note from her roommate wishing her luck in her race against the reigning world champion Sha’Carri Richardson. Although she didn’t beat Richardson, her achievement in the 100m is one to celebrate.

As for Rose Davies, she’s more determined than ever, showing off her improved speed as she readies herself for the 5000m final.
