Clayton Kershaw 2024 World Series

Clayton Kershaw, a prominent figure in Major League Baseball, recently found himself reflecting on the 2017 Houston Astros scandal as he prepares for the possibility of Los Angeles Dodgers reaching the 2024 World Series. In an interview, Kershaw was asked about the best hitting duos he has faced. He humorously referenced the duo of Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman from the Astros, noting, “But they cheated, so that’s not really the same.”

The 2017 Astros team was embroiled in a sign-stealing controversy that saw them use electronic methods to decode opponents’ signals. This scandal marred Kershaw’s performance in Game 5 of the World Series, in which the Astros scored six runs against him in the fifth inning alone, leading to a 13-12 victory in favor of Houston. The Astros’ eventual win in the World Series was overshadowed by the revelations that emerged in subsequent years.

Following an investigation by Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2019, it was confirmed that the Astros had engaged in illegal sign-stealing throughout the 2017 season. This revelation tarnished the reputations of both the Astros and those who played against them, including Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were left without a World Series title that year.

Despite the severity of the allegations, no players from the 2017 Astros squad faced suspensions, and the team’s championship title was not vacated. This decision remains contentious among fans and players alike, including Kershaw, who was denied the chance to be named the Series MVP.

As of 2024, the Dodgers are on the brink of reaching the World Series again, standing one game away from securing their spot. They play against the New York Mets at Citi Field, with Jack Flaherty starting as the pitcher. Although Kershaw will not participate in the current postseason, he is eligible to receive a World Series ring if the Dodgers triumph.
