Clemson’s Dabo Swinney announces key injuries ahead of season’s final games
Clemson, South Carolina — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney delivered disappointing news during a media conference on Sunday. Freshman offensive lineman Brayden Jacobs and veteran guard Walker Parks will both miss the remainder of the season due to injuries sustained during the recent victory against Louisville.
Jacobs suffered a foot injury while celebrating with teammates after the game. He had been a key player for Clemson, starting the last four games switching between left tackle and left guard. Swinney noted that while Jacobs’ injury would not impact spring practice, he would not be available for the final two games of the season nor any potential bowl games.
“It’s really an unusual injury,” Swinney said. “He just came down wrong on his foot while celebrating.” Despite the setback, Jacobs has shown promise this season playing 363 snaps and earning one of the highest blocking grades on the team.
Parks, who had also been nursing injuries throughout the season, suffered an ankle injury during the game and did not return. Swinney expressed his heartache over Parks’ situation, noting that the Kentucky native is out of eligibility. “The game meant a lot to him, and it’s tough,” Swinney said. He awarded Parks a game ball following the competition as a gesture of support.
With these departures, Swinney indicated that he would rely on several players to step up in their absence. “We’re looking at a few candidates to fill those roles for the remainder of the season,” he stated.
Clemson, currently with a record of 5-5, has two games left against Furman and another opponent. The team is aiming for a strong finish as they look toward the future.
