AUSTIN, Texas — The Clemson Tigers defeated the Texas Longhorns 7-4 on Thursday night, putting the Tigers one win away from their first Women’s College World Series appearance. Julia Knowler led the charge for Clemson with two RBIs in the game.

The matchup, delayed by weather, saw both teams battling into the late hours. Clemson’s Reese Basinger pitched four solid innings before Brooke McCubbin came in to secure the victory.

Texas managed to rally in the sixth inning, scoring two runs which brought the score to 7-4. However, they were unable to string together a consistent attack throughout the game. The Longhorns struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, most notably failing to score after loading the bases with one out in the fifth inning.

Clemson showcased strong offensive performance with significant innings that included a three-hit game from Alex Brown and two big multi-run innings. Despite some shaky defense in the seventh, the Tigers held their ground.

Longhorns’ Mia Scott hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to cut into Clemson’s lead, but it wasn’t enough. Texas struggled with errors, which allowed Clemson to score key runs.

With Game 2 set for Friday, Texas will aim to stave off elimination as they face a determined Clemson team seeking a program-first World Series bid.
