The Cleveland Guardians have announced that right-handed pitcher Gavin Williams will start in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the New York Yankees on Friday. This decision, announced by Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt before Game 3, marks a significant moment for Williams, who is making his postseason debut.

“We need a starter for Game 4, and Gavin is ready to go,” stated Vogt. “He’s been good for us all year, and we’re excited to give him the ball tomorrow.” Williams had a challenging regular season, recording a 3-10 record with a 4.86 ERA over 16 starts. His performance at Progressive Field, Cleveland’s home ground, was less favorable, with a 0-7 record and a 6.55 ERA.

Williams expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, “I’m grateful,” Williams said. “It’s an exciting time. Not many people get this opportunity. For them to trust me, to give me the ball for Game 4 is pretty special.”

In the opposing lineup, Yankees‘ right-handed pitcher, who is also making his postseason debut, will face off against Williams. “I’ve felt really good,” said the Yankees pitcher through an interpreter. “I felt sharp. The command of the pitches was there, and the execution and the movement of the pitches was there.” The Yankees’ pitcher had concluded the regular season with a 15-7 record and a 3.56 ERA, and is considered a strong contender for the AL Rookie of the Year award.

The Yankees currently lead the ALCS 2-0 as they head into the third game of the series. Williams and his opponent have maintained their form with simulated games and side sessions during the off days since the regular season ended.
