Clippers Dominate Hawks with Thrilling Third Quarter Surge

ATLANTA — James Harden and Kawhi Leonard led the Los Angeles Clippers to a commanding 121-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, each scoring 25 points. The decisive moment came in the third quarter, where Harden contributed 13 points, lifting the Clippers from a halftime deficit of 61-53.
The Clippers displayed a formidable defense, with Leonard recording a season-high five steals. In addition, Harden added eight rebounds and seven assists, further proving his versatility on the court.
After trailing at halftime, the Clippers produced an incredible turnaround in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 35-8. This offensive onslaught began with a three-pointer from Nicolas Batum just before halftime, followed by a string of successful possessions that quickly shifted the momentum.
Bogdan Bogdanovic, making his return to Atlanta, scored 12 points and was honored with a video tribute during the first-quarter timeout. The Clippers acquired Bogdanovic in a trade with the Hawks on Feb. 6, sending Terance Mann and Bones Hyland to Atlanta.
Onyeka Okongwu led the Hawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, Atlanta struggled offensively, particularly in the third quarter where they managed only eight points, the lowest output for a quarter this season.
Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, returning after missing three games due to lower back soreness, humorously commented on his role, stating “I’m playing 48 tonight” when asked about his minutes restriction. Meanwhile, Ben Simmons returned for the Hawks, scoring two points and recording four assists in 18 minutes after an extended absence.
Hawks center Clint Capela did not play due to family reasons. Trae Young, who excelled in his last outing by making all 21 of his free throws, managed 17 points tonight but faced challenges, finishing with seven assists and seven turnovers.
Following this game, both teams are set to compete again on Sunday: the Clippers will host the Charlotte Hornets while the Hawks will visit the Brooklyn Nets.
