Club América Dominates Toluca in 3-0 Victory

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, México (March 1, 2025) — Club América secured a convincing 3-0 victory against the Diablos Rojos del Toluca during the tenth round of the Torneo Clausura 2025 on Saturday at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
The match kicked off with América taking an early lead in the fifth minute when Álvaro Fidalgo scored after receiving a brilliant through ball from Alejandro Zendejas, following a crucial interception by Ramón Juárez. This quick goal set the tone for the match and boosted the confidence of the Eagles.
Despite América’s strong start, Toluca managed to create some chances. Notably, Jesús Rafael López awarded a penalty to Toluca after a supposed foul on Paulinho by Israel Reyes. However, after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), the decision was overturned, ruling there was no foul committed.
With a precarious 1-0 lead, América went into halftime. Upon resuming the second half, the Eagles quickly regained control. In the 50th minute, Zendejas scored again, a beautiful team effort that involved Erick Sánchez and Henry Martín, extending the lead to 2-0.
As the game approached its final moments, Diego Valdés sent an incredible pass to Cristian Borja, who scored the final goal, sealing the match at 3-0. This dominant performance placed Club América at the top of the overall standings in the Torneo Clausura 2025 with 23 points, comprised of seven wins, two draws, and one loss. However, their position is contingent on the outcome of Club León’s match against Tijuana later in the day.
In a related note, it was important to remember a recent incident involving Club América regarding player eligibility. Earlier in the season, América faced consequences for fielding Federico Viñas, resulting in a match forfeit due to an ineligible player. In contrast, Toluca encountered a similar issue during this match, fielding eight foreign players instead of the regulation limit of seven, which ultimately led to their loss.
Meanwhile, in the women’s league, Club América Femenil also made headlines during their match in Jornada 10 of the Liga MX Femenil. The match was highlighted by a heartwarming moment involving team member Irene Guerrero, who received a surprise visit from her mother, Ana Sanmartín, all the way from Sevilla, Spain. This emotional reunion provided Guerrero with a significant motivational boost during the match.
Guerrero’s parents, both former wheelchair basketball players with physical disabilities, have been a considerable influence in her athletic journey, instilling a love for sports and resilience despite challenges. Their ongoing support has been instrumental in her career, as noted by servimedia.com.
