Club América, Toluca Battle to Scoreless Draw in Liga MX Final

México City, Mexico — Club América and Toluca battled to a scoreless draw in the first leg of the 2025 Liga MX Clausura final at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes on Sunday.
The match was marked by contentious decisions, with América’s Álvaro Fidalgo brought down in the penalty area during the 21st minute. However, referee Daniel Quintero Huittrón did not award a penalty, leaving the home fans frustrated.
In the 26th minute, Toluca’s Luan García made a critical goal-line clearance to deny América an early lead. Both teams showed aggressive intentions, with Toluca pushing forward initially before América regained control.
As the first half neared its end, Luis García, Toluca’s goalkeeper, made a spectacular save to reject a close-range shot from Fidalgo. Further appeals for penalties went unseen by the officials.
After halftime, both teams struggled to find their rhythm as they appeared to be cautious ahead of the second leg. In the 82nd minute, América’s Rodrigo Aguirre squandered a prime opportunity to score when he sent his shot high and wide from inside the box.
In added time, a last-minute effort from Toluca’s Morales almost put the visitors ahead, but the match ended goalless. Both teams will meet again on Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Díez to decide the championship.
