Club De Campo Villa De Madrid Hockey Win Celebration

Tarrasa, Spain — The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid claimed its 15th Copa del Rey title after defeating Club Egara 3-0 in the final on Sunday. The match took place at the Egara stadium, marking a disappointing end for the hosts, who were aiming for a double after their women’s team had previously secured the Copa de la Reina.

The decisive moments came in the third quarter when Dutch player Thijs Van Pelt scored, followed by goals from Manu Muesmann and Ignacio Abajo at the last minute when Egara removed their goalkeeper to chase an equalizer. This victory solidified Coach Edu Aguilar‘s successful season, which included a quarterfinal win against Júnior and a semifinal triumph over RS Tenis.

“We showed our quality and determination,” Aguilar said. “Winning this title is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our players throughout the season.”

The match demonstrated Club de Campo’s offensive prowess, underscored by their strong defense that limited Egara’s scoring opportunities. The triumph puts the team in a favorable position as they look ahead to future competitions.

The top three positions were occupied by American, Canadian, and British pairs, with the United States clinching the title.

Smart and Dieck’s placement guaranteed Spain a spot for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026, alongside ensuring a place in the upcoming Olympic Qualification Tournament scheduled for September.

In tennis, Spain’s Paula Badosa advanced to the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 event in Miami after defeating Denmark’s Clara Tauson 6-3, 7-6(3). Badosa expressed relief after her victory, noting her physical struggles leading up to the match. She will face 19-year-old Alexandra Eala, who upset Madison Keys, in the next round.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica‘s national soccer team is preparing for their CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying match against Belize, following a lopsided 7-0 victory in the first leg.
