Matheus Cunha Wolves Transfer News

Wolverhampton, England — Matheus Cunha has hinted at a summer departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers as Manchester United joins the race for the forward’s signature. The 25-year-old Brazilian has netted 13 goals and provided four assists, playing a pivotal role in a Wolves team striving to avoid relegation.

Reports indicate that Cunha, who recently extended his contract through 2029 amid speculation of an Arsenal move, carries a £62.5 million release clause. This move appeared to protect his transfer value, according to football analysts, with both Arsenal and United keen on bolstering their attacking lines.

“I want to take the next step in my career,” Cunha stated, alluding to his ambition to play at a higher level. This sentiment resonates particularly in the current climate, where both clubs are eager for a fresh attacking option to enhance their title aspirations.

Cunha’s productivity has soared over the past 16 months, particularly in the current campaign, where he boasts a remarkable goal rate. He previously struggled during his loan period after transitioning from Atlético Madrid but has transformed into a key player for Wolves, establishing himself as one of the most effective forwards in the Premier League.

His impressive statistics illustrate this turnaround; last season, Cunha scored 12 goals with an xG (expected goals) of 9.55, while this season, he has exceeded that with just 13 goals from an xG of 6.74—notably improving his minutes per goal from over 200 to approximately 165.

However, discipline issues have marred his rising stock. Last month, he received a four-match ban after a confrontation that led to his dismissal in an FA Cup match against Bournemouth. Earlier in the season, he managed to avoid a heavier penalty for a similar incident with Ipswich staff. Such behavior could raise caution among potential suitors.

In other transfer news, Bayern Munich is reportedly in positive negotiations to renew a contract for Kingsley Coman. As the Bavarians anticipate changes in their squad, possible targets include Luis Henrique as a replacement should Coman choose to leave.

Meanwhile, Manchester United is also considering a move for Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca, amid their ongoing search for a reliable goal scorer.

As clubs prepare for the summer transfer window, the competition intensifies with various strategies, including Liverpool’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, as they eye significant additions to their roster.
