CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon 2024: Course, Road Closures, and Event Highlights
The CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, one of the largest marathons in the U.S., took place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in downtown Indianapolis. This event marked the 17th year of the marathon, which includes a full marathon, half marathon, and 5K races. The USATF-certified courses are known for being fast and flat, making them ideal for first-time runners, elite athletes, and everyone in between.
The marathon and half marathon courses start and finish in downtown Indianapolis, allowing participants to run through historic neighborhoods and past famous monuments. The event has hosted Olympians and thousands of Boston Marathon qualifiers since its inception in 2008. The location of the marathon is convenient, with Indianapolis being within a day’s drive of over half of the country’s population and having a LEED-certified airport just 15 minutes from downtown.
Ahead of the event, residents and participants were advised of significant road closures and IndyGo detours. The marathon route affected several major roads, and public transportation users were encouraged to plan their routes in advance to avoid disruptions. Meteorologist Robb Ellis provided a weather forecast indicating the conditions for the race day, which helped runners prepare accordingly[3].
Beyond the race itself, Indianapolis offered a rich experience for participants and their families. The city boasts a flourishing culinary and brewing scene, thriving cultural institutions, cool neighborhoods, and various attractions such as parks, museums, and ziplines. The event is known for its big race energy combined with local charm, allowing family and friends to cheer on runners throughout the course.
