Coastal Carolina Baseball Advances to Men’s College World Series

AUBURN, Ala. (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University (CCU) baseball clinched its spot in the Men’s College World Series (MCWS) after defeating No. 4 Auburn 4-1 on Saturday. This victory in game two of the Auburn Super Regional marks CCU’s return to the MCWS for the first time since 2016, when they won the championship.
The Chanticleers fell behind early but managed to score three times in the seventh inning. Walker Mitchell sparked the comeback with an RBI single that tied the game at 1-1. The team then capitalized on a Tigers’ error and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, taking the lead.
CCU added an insurance run in the eighth inning, again with a single from Mitchell, and maintained their lead throughout the final inning. The team’s strong pitching held Auburn scoreless in the ninth, securing the win. Head coach Gary Gilmore praised his players, stating, ‘They showed resilience and played some fantastic baseball today.’
With this win, Coastal Carolina has now achieved a 23-game winning streak, setting the stage for their appearance in the MCWS starting June 13 in Omaha, Nebraska. The team will compete against a field of top teams, hoping to bring home another title to Conway.
