Coastal Carolina Dominates Louisville in College World Series Semifinals

Omaha, NE — Coastal Carolina delivered a stunning performance against Louisville, winning by a score of 6-0 in the College World Series semifinals on June 18, 2025. The Chanticleers, who came into the game on a 25-game winning streak, showcased their skills on both offense and defense.
Coastal Carolina’s starting pitcher, Riley Eikhoff, was instrumental in the victory, keeping Louisville scoreless throughout the game. Notably, he struck out crucial batters and allowed no walks, which further stifled any chance of a Cardinals comeback. After Eikhoff’s solid outing, Coastal is now set up for success as they advance further in the tournament.
The game changed dramatically in the first inning when Coastal Carolina loaded the bases with no outs. Louisville’s starting pitcher, Colton Hartman, struggled early, hitting two batters and giving up initial hits. Coach Dan McDonnell made a quick decision to pull Hartman and replace him with freshman Jake Schweitzer after the Chanticleers scored two runs with a single from Walker Mitchell.
As the game progressed, Coastal Carolina’s offense continued to shine. Key plays included an impressive catch by left fielder Sebastian Alexander, preventing any scoring opportunities for Louisville. Even after a few hiccups in the outfield, Alexander managed to help Eikhoff secure the win with timely catches.
Colby Thorndyke made a significant impact with a three-run double that helped extend Coastal’s lead to 5-0. By the time Ty Dooley added another run in the second inning, Louisville was staring at a long road to recovery.
With the win, Coastal Carolina advanced to the national title series, while Louisville faced elimination, needing to win two games to reach the finals. Coach McDonnell acknowledged the challenge ahead for his team, stating, “We respect Coastal Carolina and know it will be a tough match.”
As the championship series approaches, the Chanticleers will look to continue their form and capture their second title while Louisville must regroup if they are to turn their fortunes around.
