OMAHA, Neb. — Coastal Carolina scored six runs in the first inning, overwhelming Louisville in their matchup at the Men’s College World Series on June 18, 2025. The Chanticleers showcased their power and precision, with key hits driving in runs from the start.

Walker Mitchell began the scoring with a single to right field, bringing home Caden Bodine and Sebastian Alexander. This was just the beginning of a heavy batting display that saw the bases loaded with no outs. Coastal Carolina has a remarkable record of 36-2 this season when scoring first, making the early lead significant.

Colby Thorndyke made headlines in the first with a bases-clearing double, driving in three runs and adding to the team’s momentum. ‘It felt amazing to contribute like that, especially on such a big stage,’ Thorndyke said after the game.

Ty Dooley then stepped up with a single to center field, bringing Thorndyke home for the sixth run of the inning. The dominant performance left Louisville’s pitching staff reeling, not able to prevent the onslaught.

Coastal Carolina has remained undefeated in this tournament, now standing at 6-0 after a previous win over Arizona. The Chanticleers’ success can be attributed to their aggressive batting and solid teamwork, both evident in this matchup.

‘We came out ready to play today,’ Coastal Carolina coach said. ‘The guys executed the game plan and showed what they can do when firing on all cylinders.’

As the game progressed, Louisville fought to regain control but left with little opportunity. ‘We couldn’t find our rhythm early, and they took advantage of it,’ Louisville’s coach remarked.

The match concluded with Coastal Carolina looking formidable as they prepare to advance further in the tournament.
