2024 Coates Talent League Fixtures Announced for Boys and Girls Competition
The AFL has released the fixtures for the highly anticipated 2024 Coates Talent League competition, featuring both boys and girls programs. This league serves as a premier underage football pathway competition in the eastern states, designed for players predominantly under 18 years old.
The Coates Talent League will see 12 boys and girls programs from Victoria and one from Tasmania compete throughout the season. Additionally, academy programs from New South Wales, Queensland, and Northern Territory will participate, including teams like GWS GIANTS, Sydney Swans, Gold Coast SUNS, Brisbane Lions, and NT Academy.
The boys’ season will kick off with 19 rounds starting on March 23-24 and concluding with the Grand Final on September 21-22. Reigning premiers, Sandringham Dragons, will be looking to defend their title after a successful 2023 campaign.
On the girls’ front, the season will span 17 rounds, featuring teams such as Geelong Falcons, GWV Rebels, and Tasmania Devils. Matches will commence with an Easter Thursday clash between Geelong Falcons and GWV Rebels at GMHBA Stadium on March 28, leading up to the Grand Final weekend on September 21-22.
The league has also secured broadcast and streaming partners, with live coverage via KommunityTV and the official Coates Talent League app. As part of this announcement, details for the under 16 competitions have been revealed, aiding in the selection process for the AFL National Development Under 16 Championships.
Finally, the Victorian Diversity All-Stars matches for boys and girls aged 18 and under are scheduled for April 10, highlighting talent from Indigenous and multicultural backgrounds within the AFL pathways system. The Coates Talent League continues to be a crucial platform for nurturing emerging talent in Australian rules football.
