DENVER, Colo. – Former Denver Broncos linebacker Cody Barton has signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Tennessee Titans, as reported by NFL Network on Monday evening. The 29-year-old is set to become a central figure in the Titans’ defense following his impressive performances last season.

Barton, originally a third-round pick from Utah in the 2019 NFL Draft, began his professional career with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent his first three years primarily on special teams before making a significant impact during the 2022 season as an 11-game starter with the Broncos.

After a rookie contract with Seattle, Barton played a single season with the Washington Commanders before joining Denver. In 2024, he appeared in all 17 games for the Broncos, recording 106 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, and a touchdown. His performance was crucial in helping the Broncos reach the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

“Cody became a reliable player for us, particularly in the absence of Alex Singleton,” Broncos head coach Sean Payton said. “We knew he could make plays, and he did just that.”

Barton’s consistency placed him among the top inside linebackers in the league, as he recorded a missed tackle percentage of only 4.9%, the second-best rate among 84 qualifying players at his position, according to Pro Football Focus.

Despite his contributions, the Broncos opted to move forward with different plans at linebacker. They still feature players like Singleton, Drew Sanders, and K.J. Cloyd as part of their defensive lineup. The Broncos are actively pursuing free-agent linebackers to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming season.

The Titans view Barton as a solution to their linebacker depth concerns, especially with current players Jack Gibbens and Chance Campbell facing free agency. Barton joins a linebacker room that already includes Kenneth Murray Jr. and Curtis Bolton, which should strengthen the team’s defensive capabilities moving forward.

This shift allows Barton the opportunity to establish himself as a core player for a new franchise, a role he embraced following his tenure with the Broncos, where he proved to be a capable defensive asset.
