South Texas Freezing Weather Forecast February 2025

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Memphis and the surrounding Mid-South region until noon Friday as temperatures hover around freezing. This advisory comes as intermittent light precipitation, including freezing drizzle, is expected to develop by Friday evening.

Justin Horne, a meteorologist with KSAT, indicates that moisture will gradually lower cloud cover overnight, leading to minimal ice accumulations on elevated surfaces such as patio furniture and parked cars. Horne emphasized that while a few sleet pellets might fall, the overall impact on travel or outdoor plans will likely be negligible.

“We’re anticipating light freezing drizzle starting around 6 p.m. Friday, producing a light glaze on surfaces in areas like the Hill Country,” Horne stated. “However, any significant weather disruptions are not expected.” Precipitation will transition to drizzle and light rain on Saturday as temperatures warm up, reaching only the upper 30s for high temperatures.

Despite the current cold spell, a notable warm-up is forecasted for the weekend. By Sunday afternoon, temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 60s, with highs reaching the upper 70s early next week under clear skies.

The forecast for Friday includes a continuing drop in temperatures across North Texas, with wind chills dipping below zero in some areas. Residents have been advised to take precautions against the cold, such as keeping outdoor pets inside and ensuring that pipes are insulated to prevent freezing.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect across various counties, forecasting wind chills as low as -1 degree Fahrenheit. Authorities urge residents to remain cautious when traveling outdoors, recommending layers of clothing, hats, and gloves to mitigate the risks of hypothermia and frostbite.

This weather pattern has caused localized disruptions, including icy roadways that remain hazardous. The National Weather Service has warned that icy conditions may persist, especially during early morning and late-night hours through the weekend.

Local shelters and warming stations have been activated across the area, providing refuge for individuals and families needing warmth. Major locations include the John 3:16 Mission and the Salvation Army Center of Hope, both offering 24/7 services.

As the weather situation evolves, KSAT meteorologists will continue to monitor the forecasts to keep South Texas residents informed and safe.
