LONDON, England – Miguel Delaney, a journalist for The Independent, discussed the future of Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer during a segment last night. Delaney stated that the talented attacking midfielder would be interested in a move and suggested that Manchester United would consider pursuing him if a chance arose.

“So many clubs would want Cole Palmer, and Manchester United are one who would, if there was any sort of possibility, they’d seriously go for him,” Delaney said. “I think he would be open to it, but really, there’s no possibility to happen this summer.”

This conversation echoes thoughts expressed by Gary Neville 18 months ago, who lamented Manchester United’s missed opportunity to sign Palmer from Manchester City. As Palmer demonstrated his ability early in the season, the articulation of his potential migration gained traction, especially as Chelsea faced struggles.

Questions arise regarding how long Chelsea can retain a world-class player like Palmer if their prospects for European competitions remain dim. Without the allure of Champions League football, concerns about keeping hold of Palmer could resurface if his performance levels rise again.

Despite recent downturns in form for Palmer, the talk surrounding his future quieted for the moment. But should he regain his peak performance, speculation will likely re-emerge. Earlier this year, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano noted that with Cole’s long contract and the potential for Champions League qualification, Chelsea’s best strategy is to continue building the team. “Cole will be happy to stay,” Romano remarked, highlighting the ongoing dynamics of player retainment amid Chelsea’s competitive goals.
