Cole Palmer’s Injury Delays Return for Chelsea’s Key Matches
LONDON, England – Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer will miss three upcoming matches due to a fractured toe sustained in a home accident. The incident occurred when the 23-year-old England international stubbed his toe on a door, just as he was set to return from a prolonged groin injury.
Palmer had been targeting a comeback for Chelsea’s crucial Champions League game against Barcelona on Tuesday, but coach Enzo Maresca confirmed in a press conference that Palmer will not participate in that match or the Premier League clash against Arsenal five days later.
“He is probably not available for tomorrow for sure, Barcelona for sure, or Arsenal for sure,” Maresca said. “Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe. It is nothing important, but he won’t be back next week.”
Before this setback, Palmer had already missed 11 matches this season due to the groin issue. He was close to rejoining the first team after weeks of rehabilitation. Maresca mentioned that Palmer would receive adjustments to his left boot to aid his recovery.
“We don’t know how long he will be out for. The only thing we know is he is not available for this week or next week,” Maresca added, highlighting the frustration surrounding Palmer’s injury setbacks.
Chelsea have performed well in Palmer’s absence, winning eight out of 11 matches since his last appearance on September 20. However, Maresca emphasized the value Palmer brings to the team, stating, “I feel much better when Cole is on the pitch, and we all want Cole on the pitch.”
In the meantime, Chelsea will welcome back defender Benoit Badiashile, who has recovered from a muscular injury. The Blues are currently positioned well in the Premier League standings and hope to maintain momentum despite Palmer’s absence.
