Collingwood Gets Grundy’d: Ruckman Shines at Home with Sydney Swans
In a thrilling match at the SCG, ruckman Brodie Grundy once again proved his worth by leading the Sydney Swans to victory over his former team Collingwood. This win comes on the heels of his stellar performance in the previous week, where he helped the Swans defeat Melbourne at home.
Grundy’s departure from Melbourne was anything but smooth, but he has finally found a sense of belonging with the Swans after a challenging 2023 season with the Demons. Originally traded from Collingwood to Melbourne in 2022, Grundy was expected to bolster the Demons’ ruck stocks alongside captain Max Gawn. However, his time at Melbourne was marred by injuries and a struggle to reclaim his spot in the team, ultimately missing out on the Demons’ finals campaign.
At the conclusion of the season, Grundy made the decision to join Sydney, and in just two games, he has already made a significant impact. Against Collingwood, Grundy recorded eight disposals, 22 hit outs, and four clearances, providing valuable support to the Swans’ talented midfield duo of Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner.
The week prior, Grundy put on a masterclass with 23 disposals and nine clearances against his former team, Melbourne. The 29-year-old expressed his renewed passion for the game, attributing it to the Swans’ storied ‘Bloods’ culture that resonates deeply with him.
Speaking after the match, Grundy praised the club’s heritage, stating, “Learning about the history of the football club, it’s very much a people’s club built on the back of hard work. I’m very much enjoying my time here.”
Grundy’s move to Sydney has revitalized his love for the game, with the ruckman embracing the support of the fans and the camaraderie within the team. Looking ahead, the Swans are set to take on Essendon at the SCG in search of a third consecutive victory.
