Collins Set to Return for Timberwolves Matchup After Back Injury

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah Jazz forward John Collins is set to return to the court for Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, following a three-game absence due to back soreness. Collins’ return marks a significant boost for the Jazz as they approach a critical stage of the season.
Collins, who averaged 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game this season, had been a key contributor after transitioning from a bench role to a starter in his last 28 games. His return is expected to affect the playing time of teammates KJ Martin and Brice Sensabaugh, both of whom have seen increased minutes in his absence.
“It feels great to be back with the team and contributing as we make this playoff push,” Collins said in a statement. “I’ve been working hard to get back to 100 percent, and I’m ready to go for Friday’s game.”
The Jazz are aiming to build momentum after a solid performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder, where they fell 130-107 but saw glimpses of potential with Collins’ absence highlighted by the play of Martin and Sensabaugh.
In his nine games before the injury, Collins showcased his scoring ability, averaging 19.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and nearly 1.5 blocks. His versatile skill set has made him an integral part of the team’s strategy this season, especially late in the game when scoring options are critical.
Jazz head coach Will Hardy commented on Collins’ return, stating, “John is a versatile player who can stretch the floor and rebound, which is something we need as we face tough defenses like the Timberwolves. His energy and experience will be crucial for us moving forward.”
As the Timberwolves prepare for the game, they are coming off a tightly contested match against their conference rivals. The emphasis on defense will be paramount for both teams, especially as they each strive to secure playoff positioning.
With the crowd expected to support the Jazz throughout the game, Collins’ presence could provide the necessary spark to help the team reclaim momentum in their playoff quest.
