Colorado Rapids Host San Diego FC in Major League Soccer Clash

DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PARK, Colorado — The Colorado Rapids are set to host San Diego FC on April 13, 2025, at 2:30 a.m. UK time, as the teams clash in a pivotal Major League Soccer match.
Currently in second place in the Western Conference with 14 points, San Diego is two points behind the Vancouver Whitecaps and looks to move to the top of the standings with a win against the Rapids. Conversely, the Rapids will strive to recover from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to the Whitecaps in their previous outing.
After struggling through dismal seasons in 2022 and 2023, Colorado has rejuvenated its performance this year, achieving an unbeaten record in the first four matches of the season, consisting of two wins and two draws. However, a 3-0 loss to the Portland Timbers ended their streak. Following a 2-0 victory over Charlotte, the Rapids’ progress was halted again with their latest defeat to Vancouver.
“We need to bounce back after that loss,” said Colorado head coach Chris Armas. “We want to show our supporters we can perform well at home.”
In stark contrast, San Diego has thrived in its inaugural MLS season, showcasing strong performances. After stumbling against Austin FC in gameweek five, the team rebounded with impressive wins over Los Angeles FC and Seattle Sounders, including a decisive 3-0 victory against Seattle last weekend.
“We’re looking to find consistency,” said San Diego head coach Mikey Varas, emphasizing the importance of building on their current momentum. “One of our aims is to keep the streak going, and that takes a lot of focus and energy.”
The match also presents a crucial opportunity for both teams to solidify their positions within the conference standings, with the Rapids positioned at seventh place, sitting three points behind San Diego. Armas noted, “We’ve got to be ready; we have video to analyze and understand their style.”
In terms of player availability, the Rapids will miss several key contributors due to injuries. Midfielder Kevin Cabral will be absent due to a groin injury, while other players cope with various ailments.
Meanwhile, San Diego will face its own lineup challenges, with key players sidelined. The team has enjoyed a strong away record thus far and hopes to maintain this trend when they head to Denver.
“A win here would be huge for us,” Varas added, hinting at the psychological boost it would provide as they look to contest for the top position.
The teams have never faced each other before, adding an element of unpredictability to the match. The atmosphere is expected to be electric as fans from both sides converge on Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
