Colts Eye Veteran Quarterbacks for Offseason Boost

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts are actively seeking to add a veteran quarterback ahead of the 2025 NFL season, with a list of potential targets already identified. According to ESPN, the Colts are considering names such as Daniel Jones, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Jacoby Brissett.
n
ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler noted that Jones is particularly linked to the Colts, emphasizing that the team is scouting a mix of players who can support Anthony Richardson, along with those who might be looking for starting opportunities. “I’ve heard Jones’ name more than once in regards to the Colts,” Fowler stated.
n
Jones, who was benched and subsequently released by the New York Giants in November 2024, signed on with the Minnesota Vikings to serve as the backup for quarterback Sam Darnold for the remainder of the season. While Jones has not established himself as a standout quarterback in the league, his experience could facilitate Richardson’s growth.
n
Richardson’s second season did not meet the high expectations set for him; he started 11 games and threw for 1,814 yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while adding 499 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Fowler mentioned that while the Colts remain hopeful about Richardson’s development, the approach they take in free agency will be crucial.
n
“Indianapolis has not given up on Richardson, but how the team approaches the free agency period will be telling,” Fowler concluded.
n
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers are also deliberating on their quarterback options, with Justin Fields reportedly having an edge over Russell Wilson. ESPN’s Fowler detailed that there is internal support for Fields, and both he and Wilson may remain options for the team following a lackluster finish to the season.
n
Fields, who led the Steelers to a 4-2 record during his time as a starter, threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and only one interception, complementing his ability on the ground with 231 rushing yards and five scores.
n
Wilson’s performance, conversely, declined as the season closed, with averages of 171.2 passing yards per game in the waning weeks and contributing to a four-game losing streak for the Steelers. General Manager Omar Khan indicated that the team is weighing its options carefully, stating, “all options are on the table,” but neither quarterback might be the long-term fix.
n
The Cleveland Browns find themselves in a precarious situation regarding their quarterback dynamics as they prepare for the offseason. Following Deshaun Watson‘s significant struggles and likely absence due to a ruptured Achilles, the Browns are reportedly eyeing long-term solutions in the upcoming NFL Draft.
n
ESPN reported that many believe the Browns are likely to remain at the No. 2 draft spot to select one of the top quarterbacks available. Additionally, the team may seek a short-term solution, exploring options like Daniel Jones or Kirk Cousins, should he become available.
n
The Browns may also look at Carson Wentz, given their financial constraints, including $92 million in guaranteed money owed to Watson over the next two seasons.

Across the league, teams are gearing up for an intense offseason filled with quarterback maneuvers as franchises try to solidify their rosters for the ever-competitive NFL landscape.
