Colts Open to Trading QB Anthony Richardson Amid Daniel Jones’ Success

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — With the NFL trade deadline approaching, the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly open to trading quarterback Anthony Richardson. The 23-year-old has fallen behind Daniel Jones, who has led the team to a strong 3-1 start this season.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted, “Richardson would be open to joining a premier playcaller such as Sean McVay.” This speculation arises as Richardson finds himself in a backup role, prompting discussions on his future in Indianapolis.
Richardson, who was the No. 4 pick in the 2023 draft, has struggled in his early career, which could affect his trade value. While Colts GM Chris Ballard previously dismissed trade rumors, the team’s success with Jones could signal a shift in strategy if the quarterback continues to perform well.
Jones, who recently took over as the starter, has been impressive, completing 71.6 percent of his passes for 1,078 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions. His performance has led analysts to speculate about Richardson’s role moving forward.
Fowler added that Richardson’s current situation could make him a valuable trade asset, particularly for teams that see potential in him as a developmental player. If the Colts choose to re-sign Jones, it could open the door for Richardson to request a trade for more playing time.
Despite the uncertainty, Richardson’s career is far from over. The Colts remain committed to his development, but with pressing decisions on Jones’ future, the team faces a pivotal moment in determining Richardson’s long-term role.
