Colts Nfl Draft 2025 Preview

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — As the NFL Scouting Combine wraps up, the Indianapolis Colts are focusing on how recent acquisitions in their secondary will shape their approach to the 2025 NFL Draft, which takes place April 24-26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Following a challenging 2024 season, the Colts acted decisively, acquiring two top free-agent defenders: a cornerback and a safety. General Manager Chris Ballard acknowledged that the team’s secondary needed improvement after struggling to limit big plays. These additions transform the defensive lineup as the Colts prepare for the upcoming draft.

“We needed to get better at limiting explosive plays and making game-changing turnovers,” Ballard said. “We believe the new defenders will help us achieve those goals.”

With a stronger secondary, the Colts are now better positioned to address other pressing needs in the draft. Analysts emphasize the importance of drafting a tight end this year. With a shallow pool of talent available in free agency, pursuing a tight end in the draft may be the best strategy for Indianapolis.

One standout prospect is Colston Loveland from Michigan, who could significantly bolster the Colts’ offensive presence. “Loveland can stretch the field and adds versatility, allowing Coach Shane Steichen to utilize him in various formations,” a scouting report noted.

Defensive line also remains a concern for the Colts, particularly behind established players Grover Stewart and DeForest Buckner. With few options on the roster, the addition of defensive tackle Andrew Collins could provide depth. Collins, a former standout at a major college, is known for his ability to disrupt plays both against the pass and run.

Offensive line help is also crucial. Will Fries remains a free agent, which could open a gap at right guard. As the draft approaches, options like tackle Savaiinaea are being considered. “He’s flexible enough to play multiple positions along the line and has shown promising pass-blocking skills,” an insider stated.

As the Colts finalize their draft strategy, the team plans to continue evaluating talent, particularly as free agency begins with its legal tampering period. This week, teams can negotiate contracts with free agents before the official start of the new league year on Wednesday.

“We’re excited about where these new additions can take us, but the draft is equally important for our future,” Ballard said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we believe there’s great potential in our upcoming picks.”
