Deebo Samuel Commanders Trade

LANOVER, Md. — The Washington Commanders have taken significant steps this offseason to strengthen their team ahead of the 2025 NFL season. With a focus on enhancing the offensive capabilities of quarterback Jayden Daniels, the organization has prioritized acquiring new talent and improving protection on the line.

Head coach Dan Quinn praised the aggressive approach of the front office. “When you lose in the playoffs, there’s a finality to it that you’re not ready for,” Quinn said. “For Adam and the staff to attack free agency, bring back key guys and add playmakers, I thought he just competed his ass off.”

Key acquisitions include All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel and elite left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Washington traded three draft picks for Samuel, who is expected to make an immediate impact in improving the offense. Tunsil brings proven pass protection, having allowed only two sacks last season.

Despite having only five draft picks, Washington utilized their first-round selection to pick Oregon’s Josh Conerly Jr., identified as one of the draft’s top offensive tackles. Quinn emphasized that this offseason has been more than just about talent; it’s about building team chemistry. “Adding those guys into the team—what does that look like? That’s what the offseason is about,” he said.

As for Samuel’s role in the offense, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is expected to implement creative strategies to utilize his versatility, although Quinn noted that his role in Washington may differ from his previous position in San Francisco. “We find unique things that a player has—and man, does he have them,” Quinn added.

With a solid roster in place and Daniels, often referred to as a “unicorn,” as the franchise quarterback, the Commanders are focused on transforming last year’s performance into a Super Bowl contender this season.
