Concacaf Gold Cup 2025 Qualifiers: Dramatic Matchups Ahead

MIAMI – Sixteen teams compete in the final qualifying round of the Concacaf Gold Cup 2025, with ten teams advancing following the two-legged matchups scheduled for next Tuesday. The aggregate winners will join the group stage capable of showcasing their talents on a larger platform.
The initial matches took place last Friday, with each encounter showcasing unique storylines. Trinidad and Tobago took a narrow lead against Cuba with a 2-1 victory in the first leg.
Isaiah Lee and Steffen Yeates found the net for Trinidad and Tobago, while Yasniel Matos scored for Cuba, setting the stage for an exciting return leg at the Estadio Ato Boldon in Trinidad and Tobago.
“It feels great to have scored and to help my team,” Lee said, reflecting on the game. “We know we have to maintain our focus to finish this off at home.”
Meanwhile, in the matchup between Martinique and Suriname, a first-half goal from Gyrano Kerk helped Suriname secure a 1-0 win in the first leg held in Fort-de-France, Martinique. Suriname now aims to protect its lead as Martinique seeks a comeback in front of its home crowd.
“We are confident but know Martinique will come out strong. We have to be ready for anything,” Kerk stated after the game.
In Kingston, Jamaica, the Reggae Boyz faced San Vicente y las Granadinas in a tightly contested match that ended in a 1-1 draw. Oalex Anderson scored for San Vicente before Leon Bailey equalized with a late penalty, ensuring the teams head into the return leg even.
Leon Bailey expressed his satisfaction with the late equalizer. “It was crucial for us to get that goal at the end. We’ll be looking to improve in the next match,” he said.
Guatemala will host Guyana in a critical rematch after falling 3-2 in the first leg. Isaiah Jones made history for Guyana with a standout performance, scoring a hat trick, while Guatemala’s José Martínez and José Pinto added goals.
“We know we can do better. We have to be aggressive and take our chances,” Martínez remarked, underlining the team’s determination.
Nicaragua meets Guadalupe after losing to them 1-0 in the first encounter. With Florian David scoring for Guadalupe, Nicaragua will aim to turn the tie around at Estadio Nacional in Managua.
“We have home advantage, and we need to show our fans what we’re truly capable of,” said Nicaragua’s coach.
Additionally, Costa Rica will host Belize after a commanding 7-0 victory in the first leg, a historic win for Costa Rica. The team will look to replicate that success and secure their spot in the tournament.
Honduras faces Bermuda after a thrilling 5-3 victory in the first leg, thanks to contributions from Romell Quioto, who scored two goals. This result marked a significant return to the scoring sheet for Honduras.
“We’re excited for the next match; we need to build on this momentum,” Quioto said in a post-match interview.
