SAN JOSE, CA – Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid will make his return to the ice in the team’s regular-season finale against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Wednesday night. After sitting out Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings as a precaution given the team’s demanding schedule, McDavid is expected to play, offering him a final chance to reach the impressive milestone of 100 points before the playoffs begin.

Head Coach Kris Knoblauch noted McDavid’s focus on the postseason, stating, “It wasn’t quite a healthy scratch, but he is playing tonight. I’m sure that would feel great, but the most important thing for Connor is getting ready for the playoffs and doing everything he can to be at his best.”

In addition to McDavid’s return, goaltender Stuart Skinner will start in net for Edmonton. Skinner previously missed games due to a collision injury, but he is now fit to play. “I’m very confident in Skinner’s ability to return to form after his time off,” Knoblauch said. “He’ll have a little test with two games remaining to fine-tune his skills.”

While some key players, including Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane, remain sidelined, Knoblauch expressed confidence in their eventual return for the playoffs, expected to begin on Sunday or Monday against the Kings at Crypto.com Arena. “Most guys out will be joining us for Game 1, except for Mattias Ekholm,” he stated, emphasizing the team’s depth as they gear up for the postseason.

Despite an emergency call-up of defenseman Connor Carrick from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, he will not play tonight, leaving the Oilers once again shorthanded with just 12 forwards and five defensemen available. “Unfortunately, Connor won’t be playing due to the emergency recall. We’ll have to play one short,” Knoblauch explained.

McDavid’s return is anticipated to energize the squad as they aim to finish the season on a high note before entering a critical playoff stretch. His presence on the ice is expected to be a key factor in the Oilers’ performance heading into the first round.
