Controversy Erupts as CSK Denied DRS in RCB Clash

BENGALURU, India — A major controversy unfolded during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3, 2025. The incident occurred in the 17th over of CSK’s chase.
Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi delivered a full toss to Dewald Brevis, who was in good form. Brevis missed the ball completely, which struck his pads. On-field umpire Nitin Menon promptly raised his finger, declaring Brevis out for LBW.
Brevis, after a brief discussion with his teammates, opted to review the decision. However, umpires did not allow the review, citing that Brevis had run out of time. The situation became further complicated as there was no timer displayed on either the stadium screens or the big screen to support the umpires’ claim.
Both Jadeja and Brevis expressed disbelief at the decision and attempted to argue with the on-field officials, but Brevis was ultimately forced to leave the field. CSK was left frustrated, especially considering that just days earlier, umpires had permitted Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians to review a decision even after their timer had expired.
Ball-tracking technology later indicated that Brevis’s dismissal would have been classified as ‘umpire’s call’ on impact, suggesting that the ball would have missed the stumps. Jadeja, who was at the non-striker’s end, was criticized for not signaling Brevis to attempt the review sooner.
