Controversy Surrounds Referee Replacement In Inter Miami Vs. Orlando City Match

The Professional Referee Organization (PRO) sparked controversy in the anticipated match between Inter Miami and Orlando City as they removed assigned center referee Guiherme Ceretta due to a potential conflict. Photos circulating on social media showed Ceretta wearing an Inter Miami jersey, leading to his replacement with Jamie Herrera for the game.

Ceretta, originally from Brazil, was set to be the head official for the match, but his affiliation with one of the teams raised concerns. This decision comes amidst ongoing referee strikes, with the Professional Soccer Referees Association (PRSA) on strike since February 12, resulting in replacement referees being utilized for the second consecutive week.

A spokesperson from PRO confirmed the news, stating that Ceretta’s removal was necessary to avoid any conflicts of interest. The incident has drawn attention from various media outlets, including the Miami Herald, further fueling the controversy surrounding the match.
