Cooper DeJean Celebrates Super Bowl Win at Kentucky Derby

Churchill Downs, Kentucky — Cooper DeJean, the Philadelphia Eagles‘ rookie cornerback, celebrated a stellar debut season at the 151st Kentucky Derby on May 3. DeJean, who recently helped the Eagles secure their victory in Super Bowl LIX, was spotted enjoying the festivities with teammates, including Reed Blankenship and Eli Ricks.
After making headlines for his pivotal interception return for a touchdown during the Super Bowl, which coincided with his 22nd birthday, DeJean expressed his excitement about meeting celebrities at the Derby. He revealed his desire to hang out with Super Bowl-winning tight end Rob Gronkowski, calling him a “good time.”
In a light-hearted moment with reporters before the race, DeJean learned that Kay Adams, a prominent sports host, was interested in partying with him. With a grin, he responded, “Alright, I’m down.” Adams’ interest added an extra layer of excitement to the Derby weekend festivities.
The race itself was noteworthy. Sovereignty emerged victorious, clocking in at 2:02.31 on a wet track, composing a dramatic and muddy backdrop for the event. Churchill Downs faced a rain-soaked day, with attendees shielding themselves with clear ponchos to protect against the elements.
Meanwhile, DeJean’s success extends beyond the social scene. Following the Eagles’ decision to release veteran cornerback Darius Slay, DeJean is poised for a more significant role in the upcoming season alongside fellow cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.
“People don’t understand what he does for our defense,” DeJean said of teammate Reed Blankenship, who received applause recently from former President Donald Trump during an event at the White House, highlighting his unsung contributions.
As Cooper DeJean continues to rise in visibility and stature within the NFL, his roots in Iowa remain a source of pride, evidenced by messages of support from fellow Iowa athlete and WNBA star Caitlin Clark following his Super Bowl victory.
With an eventful rookie season behind him, the young cornerback looks forward to building on his achievements as the Eagles head into the new NFL season.
