Cooper Kupp Nfl News Release

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Rams have announced the release of wide receiver Cooper Kupp, a former All-Pro and 2021 Super Bowl MVP, effective Wednesday, marking the start of the new NFL league year.

The decision comes after the Rams failed to secure a trade for Kupp, who was on the trading block despite his impressive credentials. According to sources, the Rams were unable to find a team willing to compensate them while also taking on Kupp’s $20 million contract, prompting the team to seek cap relief by cutting the veteran.

Kupp, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on June 15, revealed his impending release on social media, expressing disappointment over the decision. He stated, “I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in L.A. Still, if there’s one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember.” Kupp added that he looks forward to finding a new team where he can continue competing for championships.

The former third-round pick of the Rams has been a standout performer since his debut in 2017 under head coach Sean McVay. Kupp had a historic season in 2021, achieving the NFL’s “triple crown” by leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. He capped off that season by catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals, cementing his legacy in Rams history.

In the last three seasons, injuries have hindered Kupp’s performance; he has missed a combined 18 games since the Rams’ Super Bowl victory. Over the last two years combined, he averaged 67 catches, 753 receiving yards, and six touchdowns per season, a stark contrast to his record-breaking performance in 2021 when he secured 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Kupp’s recent struggles include a noticeable decline in his receiving yards last season, averaging just 59.2 yards per game, his lowest since his rookie year. Despite these challenges, NFL teams are likely to vie for his services due to his playoff experience and proven track record.

Several teams may be potential landing spots for Kupp. The Dallas Cowboys, in need of additional firepower alongside star receiver CeeDee Lamb, might look to sign Kupp, especially given that their new wide receivers coach Junior Adams previously worked with him at Eastern Washington.

The Seattle Seahawks could also be in the mix after recent cuts left their receiving corps thinner. Kupp’s skill set would complement the Seahawks’ offensive strategy, particularly under the guidance of Pro Bowl quarterback Sam Darnold, who joined the team this offseason.

The Baltimore Ravens, despite signing DeAndre Hopkins recently, remain in the market for another slot receiver, making Kupp a fitting addition to enhance their already potent offense.

The Denver Broncos also represent a compelling choice, allowing Kupp to team up with a rising quarterback, while the Chargers, with significant cap space, could outbid rivals for his signature. Following a season that included playoff success, Kupp wouldn’t even need to relocate far.

As the NFL’s free agency period intensifies, Kupp’s future team will likely be a key topic of discussion in the coming days. Kupp’s motivation to revive his career and returning to elite form is crystal clear as he enters this new chapter in his professional life.
