Cooper Kupp Seattle Seahawks Contract Announcement

SEATTLE, Wash. — Veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp has officially agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, the team confirmed on Friday. This move marks a return to Kupp’s home state after he was released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week.

The 31-year-old Kupp, who grew up in Yakima, Washington, was let go after the Rams were unable to find a trade partner amidst ongoing injury woes and a declining role in the team’s offense. Kupp tweeted his excitement for the move, saying, “Washington back across my chest. Let’s go!!!!!”

As the Seahawks look to fill the void left by the recent departures of star wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, Kupp’s addition is a critical step. The team traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and signed quarterback Sam Darnold as a replacement. Kupp’s experience and skill set will be vital in rejuvenating Seattle’s receiving corps.

Kupp was drafted by the Rams in 2017 and enjoyed a stellar career, culminating in a standout 2021 season when he was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the NFL in receptions with 145, receiving yards with 1,947, and touchdowns with 16. He also earned the AP Offensive Player of the Year title that season.

Despite his previous successes, Kupp has faced multiple injury challenges over the last three seasons, affecting his production. In 2024, he recorded 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns but ended the season with diminished targets. Concerns about injuries and a crowded receiving room, particularly with the emergence of Puka Nacua, led to a complicated departure from Los Angeles.

While Kupp’s past accolades reflect his talent, he now aims to contribute significantly to a Seahawks team that is undergoing a major transition. The changes signal a shift in offensive strategy under new coordinator Klint Kubiak, which could favor Kupp’s skills in getting open and generating yards after the catch.

As the Seahawks prepare for their 2025 season, Kupp will be expected to leverage his pass-catching expertise alongside new teammates, including rookie sensation Jaxon Smith-Njigba and veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Kupp now faces his former team at least twice a season as a member of the Seahawks. His extensive career totals stand at 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 58 total touchdowns, building a legacy as one of the top receivers in the game today.

For now, Kupp is focused on proving he can maintain peak performance at age 32, as he aims to continue contributing as a pivotal player in Seattle’s revamped offense.
