Corey Conners Withdraws from U.S. Open Due to Wrist Injury

OAKMONT, Pa. – Corey Conners withdrew from the U.S. Open on Sunday morning due to a right wrist injury sustained during the third round. The injury occurred while Conners was attempting to play from a plugged lie in a greenside bunker on the 11th hole.
After jamming his wrist, the Canadian golfer received medical attention but continued playing through discomfort, finishing the third round with a score of 72, which included a back nine score of 40. He ended the day tied for 39th with a total score of 8 over par.
Conners was scheduled to compete in the final round at 10:20 a.m. alongside New Zealand’s Ryan Fox. On Sunday, with his wrist taped, he attempted to warm up but was ultimately unable to play due to pain.
“Corey Conners deserves a full page on his own today,” tweeted fellow PGA Tour pro Michael Kim after their third-round pairing. Kim noted that Conners played exceptionally well, shooting 32 on the front nine before the injury hampered his performance.
Before withdrawing, Conners had a strong season, making 14 out of 15 cuts and achieving ten top-25 finishes. He is currently ranked 21st in the world and had previously achieved a tie for ninth place in last year’s U.S. Open.
Despite the setback, he is listed to compete in next week’s Travelers Championship, which presents a $20 million purse, suggesting he will continue to strive for excellence on the tour.
