Corey Perry Nhl Stanley Cup Final

EDMONTON, Canada — Corey Perry, a veteran forward for the Edmonton Oilers, confirmed his intention to return for a 21st NHL season during media day ahead of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The 40-year-old player, who has won a championship with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, aims for his second title this year.

Perry signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Oilers on July 1, 2024, and has since made significant contributions to the team. He recorded 10 points, including seven goals, in 16 playoff games this season and had 30 points during the regular season.

This will be Perry’s sixth appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, having reached this stage with the Oilers last season and with various teams over previous years. He has played in the finals with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, and of course, the Ducks.

During the media session, Perry dismissed any retirement speculation, stating, “Not really, no.” He expressed his love for the game and the camaraderie within the locker room, adding that he plans to continue playing for as long as he enjoys it. “I love playing, I love being around the room,” he said.

Perry was joined at the media event by his 7-year-old son, Griffin, who has also been a motivating factor for Perry’s continued career. Perry noted that Griffin is very involved with hockey, keeping up with players and teams.

“This is why I’m still playing, to give him the opportunity to touch the Stanley Cup,” Perry said. Griffin seemed to enjoy the attention, despite his reluctance to return to school afterward.

As the Oilers prepare for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on the eve of the matchup, Perry remains focused on the task at hand. The team lost to the Panthers in Game 7 of the finals last season, and Perry is determined to help bring the championship back to Edmonton, which last won the Stanley Cup in 1990.
