Cornwall's Molly Caudery Secures World Indoor Pole Vault Gold In Glasgow

Cornwall’s rising star, Molly Caudery, has clinched the prestigious title of World Indoor Pole Vault Champion at the thrilling competition held in Glasgow. Representing the UK, the 23-year-old athlete demonstrated extraordinary prowess in her event, solidifying her status as a top contender in the realm of pole vaulting.

The road to victory was not devoid of challenges; just moments before the final, French competitor Margot Chevrier was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury, altering the dynamics of the competition and setting the stage for an intense showdown.

In a captivating final, Molly Caudery and New Zealand‘s Eliza McCartney engaged in a fierce battle, both successfully clearing a height of 4.80m. However, it was Molly who emerged triumphant, securing the gold medal on a countback basis as she cleared the height for the second time compared to McCartney’s third.

The nail-biting competition saw Caudery outshine her competitors, ultimately leaving McCartney in the silver medal position and the USA‘s Katie Moon settling for bronze. The victory not only solidifies Caudery’s position as a remarkable athlete but also fuels her aspirations as she gears up for the upcoming Olympics.

Reflecting on her monumental win, Molly expressed a mix of emotions, stating, “I dreamed of it but I wasn’t sure if it would come true or not. It was such a tough comp and I knew it was going to be a fight. I hope the girls get a lot better because I know there were some nasty injuries and I got really emotional when it happened. To have executed the way I did, I was proud of that. All I came to do was get a medal kind of. Those two jumps that Eliza McCartney didn’t do, we get on really well, but I can’t help but be a little bit happy.”
