Cotswold District Council Unveils Refurbished Cirencester Leisure Centre
Cotswold District Council, collaborating with Freedom Leisure, has announced the successful completion of a significant refurbishment project at Cirencester Leisure Centre. This £1.2 million upgrade, finalized recently, aims to enhance the quality of facilities for the local community, reaffirming the Centre as a top destination for health, fitness, and wellness.
The improvements stemmed from residents’ feedback and are part of the council’s ongoing commitment to community investment. The refurbishment includes modern and accessible upgrades intended for users of all age groups and abilities. The project was funded entirely by Cotswold District Council, based on proposals made by Freedom Leisure upon securing the new leisure contract in 2023.
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, who serves as the Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Parking, expressed his satisfaction with the upgrades, stating, “We are thrilled to see the completion of these much-anticipated improvements. Our residents deserve the best facilities, and this refurbishment ensures that Cirencester Leisure Centre remains a vibrant hub for fitness and recreation in the heart of our community.”
Nick Charlton, Partnership Manager of Freedom Leisure in the Cotswolds, commented, “The new and improved facilities at Cirencester Leisure Centre represent a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of our local community. With state-of-the-art equipment and enhanced spaces, we are proud to offer a place where everyone can come together to improve their physical fitness, mental health, and overall quality of life.”
Additional improvements, such as the installation of water play features for younger swimmers, are set to be completed later this year. These developments are part of a more extensive strategy by the Council to bolster community infrastructure and deliver high-quality services to residents, thereby fostering community wellbeing and supporting initiatives for better physical and mental health.
The new cycle class studio and assisted gym areas were opened to the public during the Centre’s open weekend on September 28 and 29.
