Cowboys Nfl Kavontae Turpin Contract Signing

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed KaVontae Turpin to a three-year contract worth $18 million, making him the highest-paid special teamer in the league, as reported on March 11, 2025.

Turpin, who turns 29 on August 2, has quickly established himself as one of the most lethal return men in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl honors as the NFC’s kick returner in both 2022 and 2024. His impressive accolades include a first-team All-Pro selection in 2024, during which he led the league in both kick return yards with 904 and yards per kick return at 33.5.

“We’re thrilled to have KaVontae back,” said Cowboys General Manager Jerry Jones. “His speed and skillset are game-changers, and we see him as a crucial part of our future.”

In the 2024 season, Turpin set a new Cowboys single-season record with his 33.5 yards per kickoff return, a mark that is second only to Jim Duncan‘s 35.4 average from 1970. He was also the only player in the NFL to score both a kickoff return touchdown and a punt return touchdown in the same season, concurrently making him the first player in franchise history to record both types of return touchdowns along with two receiving touchdowns.

The Cowboys utilized Turpin more in their aerial attack during the last season, as he recorded career-highs in starts at wide receiver, with two, as well as targets (52), receptions (31), and receiving yards (420). His ability to enhance his role on offense could expand further under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Turpin’s signing solidifies the Cowboys’ special teams unit but is part of a larger trend of strengthening the team’s roster ahead of the new league year. The Cowboys have also re-signed defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa and are reportedly negotiating a new deal for star defensive end Micah Parsons.

As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, bringing Turpin back demonstrates their commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in both special teams and the offense, which will be essential for their aspirations of contending for a championship in 2025.
