Kellen Moore Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Interview

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coaching vacancy, according to a report from NFL Media. The move comes as the Cowboys continue their search for a new leader following the departure of Mike McCarthy.

Moore, 36, has deep ties to the Cowboys organization. He joined the team as a backup quarterback in 2015 and transitioned to quarterbacks coach in 2018. By 2019, he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a role he held until 2022 under head coaches Jason Garrett and McCarthy. After a stint as the Los Angeles Chargers‘ offensive coordinator in 2023, Moore returned to the NFC East to lead the Eagles’ offense.

Under Moore’s guidance, the Eagles finished the 2024 season ranked No. 8 in total yards and No. 7 in points scored. The team also excelled in the running game, finishing No. 2 in rushing yards while attempting the fewest passes in the league. Moore’s track record includes three top-10 finishes in total yards as an offensive coordinator, with the Cowboys leading the league in total yards in 2019 and 2021 and topping the NFL in points scored in 2021.

“I mean, obviously I spent a lot of time there. Eight years there and so, obviously have plenty of relationships [in] that place,” Moore told reporters Tuesday. “I love it here. I’ve had so much fun here. It’s been a really fun process and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the chance to play this Sunday. Have a chance to make a run at this thing and that’s really all you worry about.”

The Eagles are set to face the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round on Sunday, adding another layer of intrigue to Moore’s potential candidacy. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a history of favoring familiar faces for head coaching roles, making Moore a strong contender for the position.

Dallas has already scheduled interviews with other candidates, but Moore’s experience and success with the organization could give him an edge in the selection process. The Cowboys are looking to rebound after a disappointing 2024 season and hope to find a coach who can lead the team back to championship contention.
