Cowboys Sign Saahdiq Charles, Former Titans Offensive Lineman

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have signed veteran offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles to a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday. This move comes as the Cowboys look to bolster their offensive line depth ahead of the upcoming NFL draft.
n
Charles, 25, was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, where he played for four seasons. During his time there, he appeared in 35 games and made 18 starts, showcasing versatility as he lined up at both guard positions.
n
“Saahdiq impressed us during his workout last week, and we believe he can bring valuable experience to our offensive line,” said Cowboys Coach Brian Schottenheimer. “We are excited to integrate him into our system and help him develop further in his career.”
n
Before signing with the Titans in March 2024, Charles was expected to be their starting right guard. However, he unexpectedly retired prior to the regular season, citing personal reasons. In March, he announced plans to return to the NFL, at which point the Titans released him from the reserved/retired list.
n
In college, Charles was part of the 2019 LSU national championship team, playing a significant role at left tackle. He started the last nine games of the season and established himself as a reliable player on one of the best college football teams in history.
n
Despite his potential, injuries have hindered Charles’ early NFL career. He spent time on injured reserve due to a dislocated kneecap during his rookie season and faced additional injury setbacks in 2022 and 2023.
n
As the Cowboys continue to strategize for the draft, Charles becomes their 12th addition to the roster through free agency or trade since mid-March. He will join veteran Robert Jones in competing for the vacancy left by Zack Martin, who retired this offseason.
n
Charles, listed at 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 320 pounds, will focus on honing his skills at the guard position while hoping to maintain his health. His experience, coupled with a fresh start in Dallas, offers a potential opportunity for career resurgence.

With the NFL draft approaching in less than two weeks, the Cowboys are actively seeking to fortify their roster and enhance their chances for the upcoming season.
