Dallas Cowboys Solomon Thomas Nfl Signing

Dallas, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have signed veteran defensive lineman Solomon Thomas to a two-year contract worth up to $8 million, according to NFL sources. The 29-year-old Thomas was previously with the New York Jets, where he made significant contributions during the 2024 season.

Originally selected as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Thomas has had a varied career, spending time with the 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Jets. In 2024, Thomas played all 17 games and recorded 26 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks, showcasing his resilience and ability to impact games.

“I’m excited to join the Cowboys and contribute to a team with such a rich history and a passionate fan base,” said Thomas in a statement. “I look forward to the challenges ahead and to playing alongside such talented defensive players like Osa Odighizuwa and Mazi Smith.”

The Cowboys, under head coach Mike McCarthy, are bolstering their defensive line with Thomas joining their ranks. His experience in the league and past performances are expected to be beneficial as the team aims for a deep playoff run next season.

Thomas was in the final year of a four-year, $28.15 million rookie contract with the 49ers when they declined to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2021 season. Since then, he has signed one-year deals with the Raiders and Jets as he sought to establish his place in the league.

Throughout his career, Thomas has faced challenges, including injuries, but has remained a respected player in the league. His statistics reveal his ability to disrupt offensive plays, making him a valuable addition to the Cowboys’ defensive strategy. In addition to his tackle stats, Thomas has also forced one fumble and had two pass deflections in the 2024 season.

The signing comes as the NFL free agency period heats up, with teams scrambling to solidify their rosters for the upcoming season. The Cowboys appear to be making moves aimed at strengthening their defense ahead of training camp.
