Creighton Softball Players Warming Up Before A Game

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton University’s softball team (10-8, 1-2 BIG EAST) is prepared to kick off its home schedule with a doubleheader against Drake University (6-13) on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The first game is set to start at 12:30 p.m., followed by the second game approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first at the Creighton Sports Complex.

After an extensive 18-game road trip, the Bluejays look to capitalize on their home turf against their rivals from the Missouri Valley Conference days, having faced a tough start to BIG EAST play with a 1-2 record last weekend against Providence.

“It’s always exciting to play at home, especially after traveling for so long,” said Creighton head coach. “We’re looking forward to our fans bringing energy to the field and hopefully, we can perform well for them.”

Fans can follow the games through live stats available at www.gocreighton.com, while scoring updates will be posted via Twitter at @BluejaySoftball. The doubleheader will be broadcast live on FloSports with Jake Ryan and Kendall Lanier comentating the matches.

Creighton’s home opener is crucial as they strive to achieve their 500th overall victory on their home field. The Bluejays hold a 499-276-1 (.644) all-time record at home and will be looking to strengthen that further after finishing last season with a formidable 16-3 mark on their home ground.

On the offensive front, Creighton boasts a strong batting lineup, currently hitting .276 with 74 RBIs and 12 home runs across the season. Leading the charge are senior hitters with impressive averages; one is batting .410, supporting the team with 25 hits and ten RBIs, while another adds a .355 average from 22 hits.

Defensively, the pitching staff is equally formidable, showcasing a combined team ERA of 2.77, which ranks third in the BIG EAST. Junior Shifflett leads the rotation with a record of 6-2 and a stellar 2.39 ERA over 41 innings.

On the other side, Drake, under head coach Lindsay Diehl, is navigating through a challenging early season schedule, competing against nationally ranked teams such as Virginia Tech and Alabama. The Bulldogs have seen modest success, securing victories over Loyola Chicago and Southern Utah.

Drake’s standout performer, freshman Ava Curry, leads her team with an impressive .410 batting average and has been a key offensive contributor this season, helping the Bulldogs produce a batting average of .251.

The matchup between the Bluejays and Bulldogs is not just significant for the current standings but carries historical weight as well. Creighton leads the all-time series against Drake with a record of 60-33, although the Bulldogs claimed an 8-0 victory during their last encounter last season.

“It’s always a competitive atmosphere when we face Creighton,” said Drake head coach Diehl. “Both teams have a lot of history, and we expect a hard-fought battle.”

As the doubleheader approaches, both teams are eager to showcase their skills and prove they can edge out a critical win.

“Every game matters, especially in our conference,” said Creighton’s leading pitcher. “We’re ready to bring our best and hopefully secure a couple of wins at home.”
