Cricket Star Smriti Mandhana Leads #inspireinclusion Campaign for International Women’s Day 2024
Indian women’s cricket sensation, Smriti Mandhana, has taken a pivotal role in the #inspireinclusion campaign for International Women's Day 2024, led by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In a recent video released by the ICC, Mandhana, along with athletes from various sports, shared powerful messages promoting inclusivity ahead of the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where cricket is set to make a comeback.
As part of the Women’s Day initiative, Mandhana, alongside Mexican flag football player Diana Flores, American softball player Kelly Maxwell, Egyptian squash player Nour El Sherbini, and Canadian lacrosse player Erica Evans, united to emphasize the importance of inclusion in sports and society.
Mandhana, a decorated cricketer, highlighted the feeling of inclusion by associating it with victory, symbolically holding up a heart in a gesture that resonated with her match-winning sixes on the cricket field.
The Indian cricket star’s remarkable career includes being a two-time ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, making history with ODI and Test centuries in Australia, and contributing significantly to India‘s success at prestigious events like the Asian Games 2023 and Commonwealth Games 2022.
Cricket’s return to the Olympics after 128 years will take place at the LA 2028 Games, where the T20 format will be featured, offering separate competitions for both men and women. This milestone marks a significant moment for the sport’s global growth and recognition.
