Crisis Hits Banfield as Players Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

Banfield, Argentina – The Argentine football club Banfield is facing a significant crisis as players protest over unpaid salaries. The situation escalated after the club, led by former Olimpia coach Pedro Troglio, started its pre-season in dire financial straits.
Banfield’s first division football team has stopped training indefinitely due to accumulating debts. Players reported they have not received salaries for the past three months, prompting their decision to cease all activities since Saturday, according to local media outlets.
The club has been sanctioned by FIFA for failing to pay a $165,000 transfer fee to Club León in Mexico for forward Nicolás Sosa Sánchez. This sanction prevents Banfield from signing new players until the issue is resolved, further complicating their situation. New signing Rodrigo Auzmendi, who joined from Honduras’ Motagua, is affected by the ongoing financial disputes.
After failing to pay players, Banfield’s management is still attempting to recruit new talent. They have already signed striker Rodrigo Auzmendi and have shown interest in defender AgustÃn Dattola, formerly with Belgrano de Córdoba and currently with Almirante Brown, where he gained significant recognition.
As the pressure mounts, the players’ patience has run thin. Until Banfield settles its financial obligations, the team faces an uncertain future and undermined morale.
