Cubs Agree to Two-Year Deal with Left-Hander Matthew Boyd
The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd on a two-year contract, according to a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal is set to guarantee Boyd $29 million over the two years.
Boyd, who will turn 34 on February 2, 2025, has had a varied career, previously pitching for the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, and most recently the Cleveland Guardians. In the 2024 season, Boyd made only eight regular-season starts and has not pitched more than 100 innings in any season since 2019.
In his recent stint with the Guardians, Boyd contributed 39.2 innings of work, striking out 46 batters. This move marks a significant addition to the Cubs’ pitching roster as they look to strengthen their team for the upcoming season).
